SWEET FERN LANDSCAPES

Owned + operated by women, Sweet Fern offers design, build, consultation and revegetation/invasive species control services. Unlike most other landscape companies in the region, we believe in creating and maintaining gardens that prove to be sustainable long term, as well as aiding in protection and rejuvenation of our precious biodiverse Louisiana ecosystems. The foundation and focus of our landscapes is active soil fertility therefore we create + maintain gardens without the use of artificial/chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.

Sweet Fern specializes in native plants with an emphasis on pollinators, perennials and edibles. We offer reforestation/revegetation services as well as invasive species control/eradication.

Sweet Fern is owned + operated by Jess Cole. A Louisiana native, Jess grew up gardening by her grandmother's side and roaming the poplar/magnolia woods that her family calls home. Her connection to the natural world has been strong since her early years.

She is our head horticulturist, and co-owner of Meadow Creek Native Plants. She has 15 years of experience within the landscape industry. She is heavily influenced by her time at LSU in the horticulture department, as well as the fine arts department where she received a bachelor’s in ceramics. Jess formerly served on the Parks and Parkways board for the city of Mandeville. She is constantly seeking new horticultural knowledge, as well as refining old, and exploring new design approaches.

Jess is the contributing writer for the Country Roads Magazine column "Our Sustainable Garden". She is co-founder of The Louisiana Wild Society. It is a non profit initiative dedicated to education and empowering our community to delve into a deeper relationship with the natural world.

In her free time she enjoys tending to her personal gardens, cooking with seasonal veggies, fishing, romping through the woods and canoeing through the swamps with her son & dear friends.
